audraFormer Private Practice doc Audra McDonald is trading medicine for law as one of the stars of CBS’ drama pilot The Ordained, TVLine has learned. The project, penned by author/journalist Lisa Takeuchi Cullen and exec-produced by Frank Marshall (War Horse, The Bourne Legacy) and Larry Shuman (Devious Maids), centers on the son (played by Boardwalk Empire‘s Charlie Cox) of a Kennedy-esque family who leaves the priesthood and becomes a lawyer to prevent his politician sister from being assassinated. McDonald, who left Private Practice (and Los Angeles) at the end of Season 4 to be closer to her family and return to her theater roots in New York, will play a senior litigator at the law firm. Coincidentally, McDonald is set to guest star in the March 10 episode of CBS’ The Good Wife as an attorney who goes up against Julianna Margulies’ Alicia.
