HARLEM has been a target of developers for decades and in this series this point does not go unnoticed. In the premiere episode and all episodes to follow, the characters come face to face with developers trying to turn their quaint HARLEM homes into pricey condos for the rich and powerful. In many ways, this is a fight for the Heart and Soul of the HARLEM life that has been known for at least 70 years. And has been the birthplace of the HARLEM RENAISSANCE and the location of such noted writers as Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Bruce Nugent, Zora Neal Hurston, Claude McKay, just to name a few. The characters are a mix bag of personalities which work well to make the audience laugh and think about social issues of the day. He is in his 60’s and moved here after the Big WAR – of course no one knows exactly what WAR he is talking about. ROSEY LOPEZ is a Puerto Rican DIVA actress wannabe. She thinks she is the next J.Lo and calls herself RO LO – get it? She is in her 20’s or 30’s but it is hard to tell. In the first Episode we meet Dee as Richard is leaving for work. Dee intentionally calls him “Dick” to mess with him and let him know how little he thinks of him. Abby and Dee retire to Dee’s apartment to discuss how much Dee likes “Dick” and how he can not see Abby with a bunch of little “Dicks” running around. Abby confesses that though she is suppose to be building a family with Richard, she has just begun taking birth control pills to prevent her getting pregnant as she tries to figure a way to tell Richard she really wants to be a lawyer like him. Frankie G who tells Abby he is off to the studio to work on his new Rap CD. He offers to rap for her, but like everyone else in the brownstone, she begs him not to, for fear that he is dreadfully bad. Mr. Bruce knocking hard on Rosie’s door. Mr. Bruce is not amused and only wants the rent which is late. Rosie uses her female charm to convince him that the rent, though late, is on it’s way, though she has no idea where she is gonna get it. Next we are in the basement laundry room where Mr. Bruce and Abby talk until Meriam whizzes in. She is dressed in yet another of a million uniforms. She is in a rush between one of her and her husband’s TEN jobs to wash a load of clothes. Abby asks why they work so hard and Meriam is insulted and she sucks her teeth and says “ Me and Solomon have ten jobs between ourselves…got to make money so we can buy a house..that is been our dream since we first arrived here.
